Accepted! (By several colleges): Which one will you attend?
You’ve been admitted to more than one college. CONGRATULATIONS! Now is the time to think about your decision. While this process may feel stressful, it’s a good problem to have, all things considered. You don’t need to rush. (Most colleges don’t need a deposit until May 1.) Take your time and do your research.
Steps to help you decide:
Attend the Accepted Student’s Days - not only will you get a feel for the college, but you can meet some other prospective students!
Visit the college when students are there.
Pro Tip: Google the university’s Academic Calendar to see whether the school will be in session
Pro Tip: See if you can make an appointment with a department representative or professor in a college or program that interests you to find out how graduates are doing and where they are going after the get their diplomas.
Talk to other students who attend the university now.
Pro Tip: 5 questions to ask students already there
How did you find your friends? Was that challenging?
What do you think you are going to major in? Why?
Are your classes easy or difficult? How so?
How much would you say you spend each month on things other than tuition?
What do you wish people had told you before you got here?
Pro Tip: Some colleges have an “Accepted Students” FaceBook or Reddit page where you can connect with peers in your same situation.
Sign up to attend a specific webinar or check out YouTube to find information about the major or college you are interested in
Research the specific major you are thinking about by looking at the curriculum requirements on the major’s webpage
Review in full the financial aid award letter and make sure you budget out your yearly costs.
Pro Tip: If the award is not as much as other colleges have offered, you can negotiate!
Once you have made your decision, it is always considerate to let the other colleges know you won’t be attending. Enjoy the process, and don’t look back!
